Gasherbrum II, also known as K4 or GII, is one of the stunning peaks of the Gasherbrum massif, situated in the Karakoram mountain range in Pakistan. It is the 13th highest mountain in the world, with an elevation of 8,035 meters (26,362 feet). The name “Gasherbrum” translates to “Beautiful Mountain” in the local Balti language, and indeed, the peak lives up to its name with its majestic and awe-inspiring presence.
The mountain’s North Ridge and Southwest Ridge are the most common routes used by climbers to ascend Gasherbrum II. These routes involve traversing steep ice slopes, negotiating crevasses, and ascending technical sections. The climb demands excellent mountaineering skills, high-altitude experience, and physical fitness.
